Lightning protection standards often recommend periodic inspections and maintenance of lightning protection systems, including the testing of lightning strike counters. A field (on site) lightning strike counter tester, is used to verify the functionality of lightning strike counters, ensuring they accurately record strikes and can be used for maintenance purposes.

TOPBAS Lightning Event Counter Tester is a high pulse current device designed to trigger a reading on the lightning event counter. The tester is light, compact, and is powered by 9V batteries.

These testers are designed for use in the field, allowing technicians to test lightning strike counters on-site, which is essential for maintaining the integrity of lightning protection systems.

Lightning Strike Counter Testing Process

  1. Ensure the battery is in working condition and connected properly inside the tester.
  2. The testing cable – One end shall be connected to the tester and the other end of the cable with the testing point (pin) shall be connected to the counter testing jack (provided on the side).
  3. To test the STRIKERX counter, ensure the supplied ‘pulse cable with the testing pinpoint’ is properly inserted inside the jack.
  4. The power button (ON/OFF) shall be kept in “ON” position. The Green LED glows, indicating the proper working condition of the tester.
  5. The red button “START” shall be pressed momentarily and the current pulse will be generated and passed/flown to the counter.
  6. At the time of pulse generated, the Red LED will glow indicating the proper working condition of tester and pulse is also generated.
  7. When the process is finished and a current pulse has been sent through the pulse cable, the StrikerX counter will increase the count by one (1). Multiple pulses can be generated and every time the pulse is injected, the count will be increased and the same can be seen in the display.
